Advantages of Profibus Cable
Flexibility and application
PROFIBUS Cables offer excellent flexibility and are suitable for various indoor and outdoor applications, including use in harsh industrial environments. Get PROFIBUS Cables that are able to withstand high or low temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust and other elements.
Increased efficiency and productivity
PROFIBUS offers a complete solution for automation network requirements, as it offers the ability to connect digital Input/Output devices, discrete and motion control aspects such as drives, analysers, and other electrical gear in motor control centres (MCC). Seamless integration of instruments and control systems ensure excellent network performance and productivity.
Downtime prevention
The diagnostics and preventative maintenance information built into the PROFIBUS protocol specification helps to prevent downtime. This allows for an optimised maintenance schedule that will also reduce operating costs by preventing downtime.
Factory Automation (PROFIBUS DP)
Used for fast, real-time communication between PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems and distributed I/O (decentralized peripherals), drives, valves, and smart sensors on production lines.
Motion Control/Robotics
Specialized, highly flexible Profibus cables are used in robotic arms, conveyor systems, and CNC machinery, often in drag chains (continuous bending).
Building Automation
Used for controlling HVAC, lighting systems, and security, especially when using PLC-based systems.
Food & Beverage Industry
Specific, ruggedized cables designed for food-grade environments (resistant to chemicals and cleaning agents) are used for production and packaging lines.

Profibus Cable Struture
Conductor
Made of pure copper , solid or stranded, cross-section 22 AWG, and are suitable for different application scenarios
Insulation
PVC or PE , insulation of the conductors, the green one is core A , the red one is core B.
Filler
Or called inner sheath , PVC material , serves to protect and support the cable, preventing the twisted pair from separating, also isolating it from the shielding layer, thereby enhancing the mechanical strength of the cable.
Foil shielding
Foil shielding typically consists of a thin layer of aluminum. Due to its complete, gap-free coverage, it is highly effective at blocking high-frequency electromagnetic interference and capacitive coupling.
Braid screen
Braid shielding is primarily responsible for handling low-frequency interference while providing robust mechanical protection and a low-impedance ground path.
Jacket
Made of PVC or TPU , the cable jacket, or called outer sheath, serves as the first line of defense for any cable. Its primary role is to provide robust mechanical protection against abrasion, crushing, impacts, and harsh environmental conditions like moisture, chemicals, and sunlight.
Profibus Cable Installation Steps
Prepare the Cable
Cut the Cable to the Right Length: Use a cable cutter to cut the cable to the desired length. Make sure to leave some extra length for flexibility and to account for any mistakes during the installation process.
Strip the Cable: Use a wire stripper to remove the outer insulation of the cable. Be careful not to damage the inner wires. The length of the stripped section will depend on the type of connector you're using, but typically it should be around 10 - 15 mm.
Prepare the Connector
Open the Connector: If the connector has a housing, open it according to the manufacturer's instructions. This will allow you to access the terminals where you'll attach the wires.
Insert the Terminals: Some connectors come with pre - installed terminals, while others require you to insert them manually. If you need to insert the terminals, make sure to do it carefully to avoid damaging them.
Connect the Wires
Identify the Wires: Profibus cables usually have two or more wires, each with a specific color code. Refer to the connector's documentation to identify which wire corresponds to which terminal.
Insert the Wires into the Terminals: Once you've identified the wires, insert them into the appropriate terminals. Make sure the wires are fully inserted and that there is good contact between the wire and the terminal.
Crimp the Terminals: Use a crimping tool to crimp the terminals onto the wires. Apply enough pressure to ensure a secure connection, but be careful not to over - crimp, as this can damage the wire.
Close the Connector
Align the Housing: Once the wires are connected, align the housing of the connector and close it. Make sure the housing is properly seated and that all the latches or screws are tightened.
Test the Connection
Use a Multimeter: After installing the connector, use a multimeter to test the continuity of the connection. This will help you ensure that there are no breaks in the circuit and that the connector is working properly.
Test the Communication: If possible, connect the cable to a Profibus network and test the communication between the devices. This will give you a more comprehensive understanding of the performance of the installed connector.
